Wildfire Sparks Around Colfax, Evacuations Ordered In Placer And Nevada Co

By Jensen Rader, iHeartMedia Aug 5, 2021 A very quick moving wildfire is spreading between the Placer and Nevada County lines, around the Bear River Campground West of Colfax. The so-called River Fire is forcing evacuation orders in Placer and Nevada Counties Wednesday afternoon. The Placer County Sheriff s Department says flames are threatening areas east of Dog Bar Road and evacuation orders are in place in an area that starts at the Bear River Campground and extends to both sides of Milk Ranch Road to Tokayana Way. Nevada County Sheriff’s Office has active evacuation warnings for all residents East of Dog Bar Road, South of Mount Olive Road and West of Mountain Lion Road. Caltrans says traffic in the area of Highway 174 at Orchard Springs Road is being turned around. A temporary evacuation point is opening at Bear River High School: 11130 Magnolia Rd. Grass Valley.

New wildfire: River Fire near Colfax burns 35 structures, grows to 1,400 acres FacebookTwitterEmail A plane drops fire retardant on the River Fire on Aug. 4, 2021.Cal Fire A wildfire that started Wednesday afternoon near the city of Colfax in Placer County quickly exploded to 1,400 acres, damaged or destroyed about 35 structures and was threatening another 4,000 properties by the evening. Thousands of people were evacuated from areas in Nevada and Placer counties. Half of threatened properties were in the city of Colfax. The blaze began around 2 p.m. off of Milk Ranch Road and Bear River Campground Road in Placer County then jumped the county line to Nevada County. Dubbed the River Fire, the blaze was fueled by dry vegetation and spread by by high winds.
