hello, america. i m mark levine, and this is life, liberty and levine. a very serious question i want you to think about. should have a very sy answer, but it doesn t: what is joe biden s foreign policy? can anyone define it? can anybody give it contour or explanation and applying to one region or another. foreign policy should be based on a word i use all the time, prudence, not ideology. i don t think you call joe biden s foreign policy prudential given all the wars going on. and he s little fuse to many of them. look at middle east for now, for a moment. syria in the middle of a civil war. they ve slaughtered anybody from 300-500,000 of its citizens. i don t remember joe biden giving a speech telling them to stop killing citizens and start to protect them. yemen is in the middle of a civil war and they re slaughtering people and they re a surrogate for iran and they re shooting missiles as well as acceptabling drones to kill sending drones to kill american soldierses,
backgrounds, coming together, resisting against the military dictatorships in many forms, not only by their armed struggled but also non violent movements. there are still ongoing protests against the military dictatorships, and its phenomenal that they are able to resist for this long, even when the military is so cruel. this is over two years now that they have been resisting with commitment and determination to basically take down the military dictatorship. so, like i said, it s really unique and it s historic that this is the first time in our history, people across the age coming together and fighting together against the military dictatorship, in many forms. former leader aung san suu kyi is in prison, she is facing a 33 year sentence, there is an appeal against that at the moment, do you hold out any
period after the berlin wall came down, when some in the west were thinking that this was the ascendency, the triumph of liberal democracy. and what we ve seen over the last 30 years is that many of those assumptions were wrong, and that quite literally, right now, many countries are actively leaning much more toward authoritarianism than they were 15 years ago. well, i mean, first, if you take that 30 year span that you note, i mean, the world has gone from, say, eastern europe being a bunch of communist soviet dictatorships to european union democracies. you know, latin america has gone from being mostly military dictatorships to mostly democracies. so, i mean, the overall trend in many ways is positive. but you re right, there has been this backsliding in recent years. but, you know, what i look at is in a series of countries over the last few years, there has been a huge popular outpouring of support for democracy, against autocracy. and you see that in, you know, in hong kong, in
