Bombay High Court has allowed the citizens of Mumbai to burst crackers between 7 pm to 10 pm during Diwali. A division bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice G S Kulkarni said while it was not going to order a ban on bursting of firecrackers, a balance needs to be struck considering the deteriorating air quality index (AQI) in the metropolis.
The Court remarked that citizens were required to make a choice between a disease-free environment and bursting firecrackers during the upcoming Diwali festival.
The Bombay High Court today directed the Municipal Corporations of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to ensure that firecrackers are not burst beyond the period of 7 PM to 10 PM in light of the poor air.
