Characters of the County: Running for Those Who Can t - The Lincoln County News

The Lincoln County News January 11, 2021 at Amber Young runs a 100-mile race in Alcoa, Tenn. in March 2018. Young wears at least one article of purple clothing for every race in support of her daughter, who has epilepsy. (Photo courtesy Amber Young) Seven years, nine months, and 29 days. That’s how long Amber Young has been a streak runner meaning she runs every day, without fail. Her love for running was not innate, but began when a friend wanted a partner for a 5K race. Young agreed, reluctantly, and she was hooked. Six months later, she ran her first half-marathon, and a year later, she took on Disney World’s “Dopey Challenge” in Florida four days of running, beginning with a 5K the first day, followed by a 10K, a half-marathon, and, finally, a full marathon on day four.

Your healthcare remains

Dear Editor: I’m writing in response to the Dec. 7 letter ‘Our health care is gone’ that states health care in Boothbay Harbor, particularly on LincolnHealth’s St. Andrews campus, no longer exists. Nothing could be further from the truth. Primary care is thriving at the Family Care Center, which remains open five days a week. Lab work is done at the Center as well. In addition, all Wellness and Rehabilitation Services continue on the St. Andrews campus. The only change in care is the temporary re-assignment of Urgent Care Center staff to the Miles Campus in Damariscotta on Dec. 7, a move made necessary by the surge of COVID-19 cases in Lincoln County.
