Parth is a 9-year-old third grader at Cedar Ridge Elementary School, and his project is now a school-wide composting program. My goal is for all CPS schools to have composting programs by the time he graduates high school, Parth said, referring to Columbia Public Schools.
The reasoning behind his goal? So we can save more food and help plants grow, he said.
The Cedar Ridge student has a start on his goal with the composting project at his school. The project composts food waste from school lunches. Compost is made from decomposing organic materials.

SPOKANE, Wash. A winter snowstorm that made its way into the Inland Northwest on Wednesday brought a record-breaking amount of snow to Spokane.
Spokane International Airport saw 8.1 inches of snow by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, breaking the previous record for Dec. 30 of 5.4 inches set in 1990. Spokane also launched a full-city plow in response to the heavy snowfall.
The National Weather Service s Spokane office has been collecting snow reports from residents in eastern Washington and North Idaho.
