The Stuff Top Large SUV for 2020 is the Land Rover Defender.
Land Rover has decided the Defender needs more power. A lot more. While other manufacturers might look towards adding electric power to the mix, Land Rover decided to use a supercharged V8. The 5.0-litre blown V8 makes 386kW/625Nm, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It shoves the Defender to 100kmh in 4.9 seconds before topping out at 240kmh. That’s quick, particularly considering the Defender isn’t a light vehicle. To control the extra power, Land Rover has added larger anti-roll bars and given the electronic active rear differential a yaw controller for better cornering. The Terrain Response system gets a new drive mode too, called ‘Dynamic’ which sharpens the throttle and stiffens the suspension.
