Even though President
Sauli Niinistö is only half-way through his second term, the daily Helsingin Sanomat looks at voter support for a possible successor. Olli Rehn (Cen) was most frequently mentioned by the more than 1,000 voters surveyed, followed by Prime Minister
Sanna Marin (SDP).
Unlike most polls, respondents were not given a list to choose from, but were asked to provide the name of a preferred candidate in the 2024 election.
Topping the poll, at 19 percent was Rehn, with 13 percent naming Marin, and seven percent Foreign Minister
Pekka Haavisto (Green). Five percent named
Jussi Halla-aho, the chair of the Finns Party as their first choice.
