mike e manuel is keeping track of this all for us on capitol hill. mike, what an afternoon. reporter: no question about it. good afternoon to you. the house vote wrapping up. it was 227-205 when republicans realized they had the votes, applause erupted on the house floor. lawmakers got a pitch from president trump coming up to capitol hill earlier today. they also got an appeal from the house speaker who has worked his entire career trying to get tax reform done. it s about tax relief, fairness. it s about simplicity. it s about easing the stress and anxiety that s in this country. what we really need to do is we need better jobs, more jobs, faster economic growth, higher wages. reporter: earlier key democrats tried to attack the plan saying this is a bad deal.
expressed concerns about the opioid crisis. we caught up with two on the watch list. signs of life from potentially three children. we ll continue to watch the story. senate republicans are breathing new life into healthcare, pushing the graham-cassidy bill. but some republican holdouts are leaving likelihood of passage up in the air. mike e manuel is live on the hill. majority leader mitch mcconnell is planning to bring this to the floor next week. they only have until september 30 before they re gonna need 60 votes. can they get it done? reporter: you re absolutely right. there s intense pressure to get it there. republicans will keep their seven year promise to get rid of obamacare. one of the key sponsors tried to reassure folks that it won t be bad for those with preexisting conditions. the legislation said that nothing a governor is asked for will be approved unless there is affordable and adequate coverage for those with preexisting conditions. president trump tweeted last night he will not sign
harris: vince, simon, thank you both. a jam packed agenda for congress. even before fixing the dreamers program got added to the congress to do list. chief congressional correspondent mike e manuel is live on the hill. reporter: lawmakers realize they have a lot to do and little time to get it done with a lot of issues coming due september 30th. they will be voting on nearly $8 billion tomorrow on hurricane harvey relief funding. today the house majority leader talked about deadline pressure facing congress. we ve got a lot of busy things happening here. we have to deal with harvey. we have the debt ceiling. we have the continuing resolution will be just about a three month continuing resolution. so you will deal with the wall a little later in the year. reporter: continuing the resolution, keep the lights on after the end of the month, which is the end of the fiscal year. there s also significant pressure coming from the white house and the treasury to raise that debt ceiling
