ANN ARBOR, MI Allie Grenon, Mike Zlonkevicz and other members of the club boxing program at the University of Michigan spent all day Jan. 16 moving heavy bags, mats and other equipment out of their space at the Sports Coliseum, a campus facility used by club and intramural sports teams.
After a months-long appeal, the club was told in November the university would no longer sponsor it “as a result of the nature of the sport and the frequency and force of purposeful contact to the head of the participants involved,” according to the decision letter signed by Mike Widen, UM director of recreational sports.
