It was another busy week for the Orlando Solar Bears, as the 2020-21 regular season winds down.
The team began the week hanging on to the fourth and final playoff spot in the ECHL’s Eastern Conference, with South Carolina and Jacksonville closing in behind them.
After taking five out of eight points this week - thanks to two late third period rallies - the team is getting closer to seeing that “X” next to their name.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – Third period goals from forwards Matthew Weis and Justin Florek put the South Carolina Stingrays (12-9-6-2) within striking distance of completing a comeback, but the team was unable to find an equalizer late in the game and suffered a 4-2 loss to the Jacksonville Icemen (11-12-1-2) on Pink In The Rink Night Saturday at the North Charleston Coliseum.

It was not a good start to 2021 for the Orlando Solar Bears, who dropped their first two January games by a combined 10-1 goal margin.
However, thanks to reinforcements via the ECHL waiver wire and the Lightning, the team managed a split of their weekend slate against Florida and Jacksonville.

-On Tuesday, the Solar Bears claimed defenseman Mark Auk off waivers from Rapid City. The third-year pro had 5 assists in 5 games for the Rush this season before his release. He split the 2019-20 season between Rapid City and Toledo, with 11 points in 31 games. To make room on the roster, rookie defenseman Paul Meyer was released, having only appeared in two games.
