Whaling City Festival Blasts New Bedford Board of Health Decision

New Bedford s Whaling City Festival Returning This Summer

Whaling City Festival President Mike Sylvia made it official this morning on Michael and Maddie: New Bedford s Whaling City Festival will make its return to Buttonwood Park this summer, July 8-11. Sylvia told us this morning that he made his pitch to New Bedford s Parks Department last night and it was an unanimous yes from the board. How will this year s Whaling City Festival stack up against previous years? Will there be many changes from the Whaling City Festivals that we know and love? Not many, Sylvia said. The only difference will be that we are too close to the festival to be able to book any bands. Other than that, you ll have all of the same food, the same vendors and the same shows that people have grown to love at the Whaling City Festival.

Whaling City Festival: We ll Relaunch Lakeville Haunted House

The Lakeville Haunted House has had its head on the chopping block for a couple of years now. Volunteers and board members let the curtain fall on the decades old haunted house back in 2019. Since then, the abandoned haunted house has been a concern to town officials who look at the building and its immediate area as a fire and safety hazard. The structure, slated for demolition, was on the agenda at last night s Town Meeting in Lakeville. Town residents needed to approve a line item that would allocate $50,000 for the razing of the structure. The institution of the Lakeville Haunted House is not dead.  It is still very much alive.  –

New Hampshire Bill to Opt State Out of Federal Asset Forfeiture Program in Trouble in State Senate

New Hampshire Bill to Opt State Out of Federal Asset Forfeiture Program in Trouble in State Senate CONCORD, N.H. (April 26, 2021)  A New Hampshire bill that would take a big step toward opting out of a federal asset forfeiture program sailed through the House, but has run into trouble in the Senate thanks to fierce law enforcement opposition. A coalition of seven Republicans filed House Bill 331 (HB331) on Jan 6. The legislation would prohibit any state or local law enforcement agency from offering property seized under state law to a federal agency for transfer or adoption unless the seized property includes United States currency in excess of $100,000. The law would not apply to property seized by joint task forces.
