Residents throughout St. Lawrence County are invited to attend condensed versions of Memorial Day festivities on Monday, May 31.
There will be no Memorial Day parade in Canton this year but a traditional wreath ceremony on the Main Street bridge will be held at 10:30 a.m. The event will include the playing of Taps and a volley of rifle fire top honor U.S. Navy veterans.
“On Memorial Day, we honor our fallen, but we must also embrace the feeling of honor, patriotism and pride,” stated David M. Pearson, commander Edward C. Seymour Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1231, Canton.

OGDENSBURG, N.Y. (WWNY) - We did some fact checking on a story we did Monday about Ogdensburg and how its city attorney gets paid.
The issue most recently came up as city council debates spending money to open a beach.
In our story Monday, there were 2 viewpoints from council members: that the city lawyer is on retainer and it wouldnât cost anything to have the lawyer at council meetings versus the lawyer is paid when called upon and, by not having the lawyer at the city council meetings, itâs saving the city money.

As a Town of Oswegatchie taxpayer, I have been reading and listening to the information presented by the Ogdensburg Public Library and the Friends of the Library. I believe that all taxpayers, city and surrounding townships should do their homework before voting on this referendum on May 18.
1. The Ogdensburg Public Library is a Municipal Library, governed by a Board of Trustees. As a Municipal Library, the board can only consist of residents of the City of Ogdensburg. A few years ago, the voters passed resolutions that raised $125,000 from all Ogdensburg School District households which includes Ogdensburg residents and those in parts of the Town of Lisbon and Oswegatchie. This money is a permanent tax which is listed on your annual school tax bill. Currently, you are paying currently .319 per thousand. So, if your home is assessed at $100,000, your current yearly library tax is $31.80. The Librar
