This is getting out of comptrol
State Sen. Brian Benjamin needed some relief after a tough week for his comptroller campaign – and he got it at a Sunday forum hosted by the Downtown Independent Democrats. In almost 20 minutes on Zoom, Benjamin didn’t get a single question about his potential straw donor scandal, as reported by The City, or his receiving outside income from a firm with ties to the subprime mortgage crisis, as reported by the Daily News.
ROCHESTER The ongoing redevelopment of the Scenic Theater has unearthed an unexpected find.
Crews recently found the large metal letters that once spelled out “SCENIC” atop the movie theater’s marquee while they demolished some of the vacant North Main Street building’s interior spaces.
“I didn’t know those were there,” said Rochester Economic Development Director Mike Scala. “That’s amazing.”
The discovery has added excitement to a project that already has plenty in the eyes of city staff and downtown Rochester’s businesses.
Chinburg Properties is converting the old Scenic Theater at 12-14 North Main St. and the adjacent Salinger block at 10 North Main St. into 50 apartments and 2,700 square feet of commercial space as part of an $8 million project.
