Eight Canadian Armed Forces members from CFB Shilo were deployed to Garden Hill First Nation throughout Sunday and Monday in an effort to rapidly assess a massive COVID-19 spike in the community.
Once their assessment was complete, an additional group of about 30 personnel were also deployed to the northern First Nation on Wednesday to provide humanitarian assistance and to address the emergent needs of the community.
According to a Friday email from Department of National Defence media relations head Daniel Le Bouthillier, these military members are responsible for completing a variety of tasks during their deployment.
