Michigan State’s defense already faced a significant challenge.
The Spartans lost seven starters on that side of the ball – six of them three-year starters – from the 2019 team.
The process of retooling the defense came with additional complications as Mark Dantonio retired after 13 seasons leading the program and Mel Tucker was hired as his replacement. Like Dantonio, Tucker is a former defensive back and secondary coach by trade who worked under Nick Saban.

And the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive lineman is finally going to the playoffs.
Gholston, a former Michigan State standout and Detroit native, had two tackles, including a sack, while playing 25 defensive snaps as the Buccaneers (10-5) routed the Lions 47-7 on Saturday at Ford Field to clinch their first playoff berth since 2007. He has 40 tackles, including eight for a loss, three sacks and a fumble recovery in 15 games with 11 starts this season and has played all eight years with the Buccaneers.

Le’Veon Bell had his most productive game since joining the Chiefs in October.
He had 15 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown and a 14-yard reception as Kansas City (13-1) won 32-29 against the Saints on Sunday. He scored on a 12-yard option pitch from quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Naquan Jones will not be back for another season.
The Michigan State fifth-year senior defensive tackle announced via Twitter on Wednesday afternoon he is entering the 2021 NFL draft. Although Jones is in his fourth season on the field for the Spartans, the NCAA in August granted all fall sports athletes an additional year of eligibility due to the coronavirus pandemic. Jones won’t be taking it.
