Mike Nuzzolese had a lot of friends. Not because he was the Mayor of the Village of Goshen, but because he was, as so many people have said, “a nice guy.” He was pleasant, easy to work with and always.

A mayor in the Hudson Valley died unexpectedly over the weekend, days before an upcoming village election.
Mayor Michael Nuzzolese, of Goshen in Orange County, who was first elected in 2018, died at the age of 66 on Saturday, March 13, officials announced. He was running for his second full-term in the election on Tuesday, March 16.
The village said that Nuzzolese’s name will remain on the ballot, and Deputy Mayor Pete Smith will serve as acting mayor until next year’s village election.
Prior to his time as mayor, Nuzzolese was a member of the chamber of commerce, as village trustee, was active in the Italian American Club, volunteered at the village’s food pantry, and was voted Person of the Year by the Goshen Chamber in 2001.
GOSHEN – Michael Nuzzolese, Village of Goshen’s mayor for the past four years, died on Saturday, following a long illness.
Nuzzolese, 66, was a Goshen native who served for 42 years in the Goshen Fire Department’s Dikeman Engine & Hose Company #3. He took over the reins as the village’s chief executive after retiring from his job as the village superintendent of public works.
Nuzzolese dedicated his life to serving the community, said village Trustee Peter Smith: as a foreman in public works, as superintendent, as a village trustee and mayor, and as a long-time volunteer firefighter. Smith said Nuzzolese had been battling with cancer.

Village of Goshen Mayor Mike Nuzzolese died Saturday in his Goshen home at the age of 66. I enjoyed working with Mike and he will be missed for his hard work, compassion and commitment to the residents of Goshen. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus stated.
A cause of death wasn t released. Nuzzolese was born in Goshen in 1954. He retired from the Village of Goshen as Superintendent of Public Works. He was the Mayor of the Village of Goshen until his passing, was a Village of Goshen Board member, member of the Chamber of Commerce, Italian American Club, he volunteered at the food pantry and was voted Person of the Year by the Goshen Chamber of Commerce in 2001, according to his obituary.
