A transfer of property from the Livingston County Road Commission to the Sheriffâs Office may eventually yield a dedicated training site for deputies.
Sheriff Mike Murphy told the Livingston County Public Safety and Infrastructure and Development Committee on Monday that one of the things the Office has been looking for in his time there has been a property that could be utilized for a variety of purposes, including K9, drone, and search and rescue training as well as a gun range. In 2018, Lt. Mike Nast went into conversations with the Road Commission over 50 acres of property near Faussett and McGuire roads in Deerfield Township. Not wanting to run into public outcry, Murphy said they went and talked to neighbors about it and the biggest issues were with people realizing they may lose trails and hunting property that they were technically trespassing on.
Arkansas commission approves updated CWD management plan
LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission unanimously approved an update to the agency’s official Chronic Wasting Disease Management and Response Plan at today’s meeting. The meeting was condensed to a single day and conducted via teleconferencing software because of impassable roads throughout much of the state. A feed of the meeting is available on the AGFC’s YouTube page at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrbxMWl7Wdk&feature=youtu.be.
During the Commission’s January meetings, AGFC State Wildlife Veterinarian Dr. Jenn Ballard explained the need for an updated plan. The agency’s first CWD plan, finalized in 2006, solely focused on response actions should CWD be discovered in the state. Once CWD was detected in Arkansas in 2016, the AGFC’s Deer Team then revised the plan to help with future management and surveillance for the disease.
