These four classes will deal with the Superman history through comic books, examine how Superman created an industry in his 1938 debut in Action Comics No. 1, and look at collecting comics in the 21st century. We will view a history DVD, hear several episodes of the Adventures of Superman radio show, view a chapter of a Superman movie serial, and view and discuss the pilot of the Adventures of Superman TV series.<br/><br/>Convener: Mike Korcek graduated from NIU in 1970 with a B.A. in journalism and went on to spend his career in that field. He spent four decades in the NIU Office of Sports Information, 22 of these years as director. He received the Donald R. Grubb Journalism Alumnus of the Year Award in 1998. DeKALB – Through the NIU Library, the Northern Star’s older issues, dating back to 1899 (the first year the Northern Star began printing), are being digitized and will be available for the public to read online later this year. Before the old print issues were digitized, many of the past issues from 1899 to 1997.
