Politicians are the biggest contributors to the ongoing scourge of tribalism which has the potential to stir tribal and ethnic wars in the country, according to All People’s Party president Ignatius Shixwameni.
Speaking during Namibian Sun’s ‘Evening Review’ show last night, he said the advent of jobs for comrades and neglect shown towards minority groups are antagonising the Namibian public.
“Politicians must carry the blame, especially the ones in government. At independence we promised that we would build one Namibia, one nation but all we see today is the perpetuation of tribalism and self-interest,” he said.

National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) president Utjiua Muinjangue’s leadership is being tested after senior party members accused her of employing her political cronies in her office at the health ministry.
She is facing accusations of nepotism after appointing political ally Elia Kandjii as her personal assistant and the wife of the party’s deputy secretary-general Stefanie Uapingene as her secretary.
Kandjii, the party’s national chairperson, has been Muinjangue’s ally since her journey to the top echelons of the party started.

Swapo has conceded defeat in elections held in the //Karas and Hardap regions on Friday, and says it will start working hard to win back the support it lost to the Landless People’s Movement (LPM) in the regions.
After a botched process during the original elections held last November, the Electoral Court ordered a re-run at Koës, Stampriet and Aroab local authorities, as well as Mariental Rural constituency.
LPM’s Densia Swartbooi was proclaimed the winner for the Mariental Rural constituency.

Swapo, the Landless People’s Movement (LPM) and Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) are all bullish ahead of regional and local authority election reruns slated for today in Aroab, Koes, Stampriet and Mariental Rural.
Three judges of the Electoral Court last year ordered a rerun of elections should take place in December 2020 after an Electoral Commission of Namibia bungle with ballot papers.
Confidence on show
The Swapo coordinator for the //Karas Region, Matheus Mumbala, was enthusiastic and optimistic his party would do well.
“This is normal for me, I am 100% sure we will do well in Aroab and Koës. Swapo is ready to take Koës and gain one more seat … in Aroab, we are confident we will win,” he said.
