Reporter henry lee is live from the scene now with the latest. Henry well, alex and christina, i take a look behind me. San jose police are still at this command post set up along meridian. Now for hours, this neighborhood was blocked off as Police Helicopters swat teams and officers surrounded the suspects home in hopes of negotiating his surrender. A suspect is in custody after he allegedly shot and wounded a San Jose Police officer as she was responding to a family disturbance. It happened at a home near race street and ausable avenue just before eight in the morning. Shortly after arrival, officers made contact at the residence and immediately began taking fire from a suspect. One officer was hit by gunfire and was transported to a local hospital for that injury. The name of that officer was withheld and her condition was not released. Its unclear whether she or other officers returned fire and whether that suspect was hit. That a tipster alerted police. Authorities ultimately arrested 36 year old payam afsari at his home. Hes now facing charges of assault with a Deadly Weapon and child abuse. Police believe this was a random attack. We cant speak to the state of the mind of the suspect or what may have led him to do that. We just know it was a dangerous situation and the child and his guardian left quickly after it happened. Investigators want to speak to them and hope maybe the public can help track them down.
