Utah teen blocks shots in the pool, adversity on dry ground

KSL TV HYRUM, Cache County – For two nights a week over four months out of the year, the Stang Aquatic Center in Hyrum, Utah, is home to one of the best high school water polo teams in the state: The Cache Valley Kraken. Their offense is straight-up fire, and they ve got a defense maybe even better. One of the key pieces to that defense is their senior goalie, Benjamin Lehnig. He s 6-foot-3, with a wingspan nearly as long. Benjamin is good, treading water almost half his life. But here s the thing about life: Whether it s in the pool or out of the pool, in the middle of it all, there are simply some things you never see coming.

KSL Investigates: Vital tool helping fight future wildfires

KSL TV SALT LAKE CITY It s only April and more than 155 wildfires have already scorched the drought-ridden parts of Utah. Kaitlin Webb, the statewide prevention and fire communications coordinator for the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands said 98% of those fires were human-caused. Only three of those have been natural cause, she explained. It s a troubling continuation of last year s record for human-caused fires: 77% of nearly 1,500 blazes started from things like sparking equipment, target shooting and fireworks. Almost all of Utah is in a severe drought, which means wildfire officials are on alert and preparing for what could be a busy and dangerous fire season.
