Rally organizers, police deny coordinating with far-right extremists ahead of pro-Israel rally

El Cajon Organizers from the non-profit Shield of Israel denied a claim by the leader of a local far-right “patriot” group that he met with them ahead of a pro-Israel rally Sunday featuring former secretary of state Mike Pompeo and California gubernatorial recall candidate Larry Elder. Members of the group clashed with self-proclaimed Antifa activists who were acting as an ad-hoc security team for pro-Palestinian protesters intent on disrupting the “We are Israel” rally in El Cajon Sunday. Videos shared online show several fistfights between members of the two groups and people from both sides spraying one another with what appears to be bear repellent, a type of pepper spray that shoots farther, wider and lingers in the air longer than pepper sprays intended for human targets.

We Are Israel rally draws recall candidate, Trump s former secretary of state and protesters to El Cajon

EL CAJON A pro-Israel rally featuring former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder drew about 200 protesters to El Cajon Sunday, some of whom clashed with local extremists just one block east of where the duo spoke. While speeches and musical acts entertained about 500 people gathered to hear the two conservative figures at the “We Are Israel” rally at El Cajon’s Prescott Promenade, self-described members of antifa exchanged punches with men and women associated with different East County “defender” groups that organized in response to 2020’s Black Lives Matter protests. Men and women from each side threw punches at one another ahead of the main body of the protest march. A man wearing black who appeared to be with the antifa demonstrators emerged from the crowd and sprayed pepper spray at the people fighting.
