simple. he was calling countries and his counterparts. it would have been okay with me. i would have directed him to do it if i thought he wasn t doing it. hillary clinton lied many times to the fbi. nothing happened to her. flynn lied, and they destroyed his life. i feel badly for general flynn. he lost his house. he s lost his life. and some people say he lied and some people say he didn t lie. i mean, really, it turned out maybe he didn t lie. phil, the president s been pretty chatty about mike flynn over the years. you expect we might hear from him today, 2:15 at the pool stra spray? i would think so. if not, we ll at least hear from him in the next 24 hours at some point. president trump has been saying all along he feels badly for michael flynn, but it s really all about donald trump himself. remember how these two men got together. trump was a candidate for president. much of the military establishment, the national security establishment rejected
these types of things. i ll ask you the same question i asked pete. what is your expectation for what we will see in an hour, hour and a half from now? does mike flynn walk out of that courtroom facing no prison time, or does he go behind bars? i would expect he walks out without prison time. judge sullivan is obviously the wild card in this. he could do something because he s so angry about the manner in which flynn responded and clearly was not remorseful. there s a really dramatic moment in the courtroom after the lawyers have done their talking about the sentencing memo, the judge will allow michael flynn to say something, and then he ll say, okay, now you finish speaking, and just before he gives his sentence, you watch the marshals. if the marshals stay seated, nothing s happening. if the marshals get up and stand behind the defendant when they re in that three-point stance, they put their hands behind their back and they spread their legs and they re standing right by the defe
or in other words, wishing luck to a guy who lied to the feds who was fired as national security adviser. why would the president be so conciliatory toward michael flynn when we haven t seen that in his attitude toward michael cohen? both men, of course, cooperating with the special counsel. i think the difference in the way he treats different michaels in his tweets is very striking. look, you know, occupying the head space of donald trump is a very dangerous game and one that, you know, i don t pretend to understand why he does many of the things that he does. that said, he does seem to be concerned about what mike flynn, what the contents of mike flynn s communications with the special counsel s office have been. he does seem to have been concerned about that as early as when he importuned his fbi director to let the case against
mike flynn is a patriot. he s made some serious mistakes here. i remember when i worked in the congress and he was the head of the defense intelligence agency. he came before our committee to talk about the military intelligence programs of our country. this is he was at the apex when he was national security adviser, the top of the pyramid when it comes to our national security. to see it ends like this today is certainly historic. it goes back to the reagan administration when we had two other national security adviser convicted. very quickly, ben, let me get you in on james comey. he was out on capitol hill. you saw him on this broadcast yesterday walking into the capitol. he spoke about this flynn case and frankly blasted some in the gop. here s what he said. think of what s happening in the republican party. they re up here attacking the fbi s investigation of a guy who pled guilty to lying to the fbi.
it s advisory to the judge. the judge has the authority to impose any sentence up to the maximum here, but at the most what the judge would impose would probably be a couple of months, and again, the lawyers on both sides agree that his sentence should be zero, just a sentence of probation. the only question is whether the judge will agree with that and believe that flynn is completely remorseful and truly regrets what he did. pete williams, we ll let you get inside the courtroom. i know we ll check back with you after this whole thing has wrapped up. sarah sanders would not elaborate on this tweet from the president, but did say i do think all of america is interested in what mike flynn has to say. that certainly could be true. at the very least we know the president, you know, is very likely watching as we are right now. i think the flurry of activity in recent weeks has been fascinating, partly because we re trying to figure out who flynn is messaging to.
