A vaccine shortage forcing the cancelation of thousands of appointments across the country. President Biden, now answering the call I can announce that we will increase overall weekly vaccination distributions of states, tribes and territories. The US ordering 200 million MAWR doses from Moderna and Pfizer upping the national stockpile to 600 million doses, enough to vaccinate 300 million Americans by the end of the summer. States will get 17% MAWR doses, and they ll get a three week forecast on supply, giving them time to plan distribution. Starting Wednesday, Massachusetts residents 75 and older can schedule appointments for a COVID-19 vaccine. But can they navigate the site and actually find an appointment? I m trying really hard not to lose patience, says Elaine Solomon of Northborough. Where are the appointments? There s nothing there. I found that really frustrating!
Also among those frustrated, State Senator Harriette Chandler, who tweeted she personally has struggled to navigate the state s system and called the website simply ineffective.
The problems are on the radar of AARP of Massachusetts, too, which is calling on Governor Baker to make the process simpler, including a toll-free number for folks without easy Internet access. We speak with Mike Festa, State Director of AARP Massachusetts.

Gov. Charlie Baker on Wednesday urged residents to be patient with the COVID-19 vaccination rollout in Massachusetts amid growing frustration over the state s vaccination sign-up process.
Saying the process would remain difficult until a steadier stream of doses arrives from the federal government, Baker said eligible residents should be ready to visit the state website several times as they attempt to set up an appointment. We expect that by the start of Phase 2 there will be a large number of residents trying secure a limited number of appointments, Baker said during a press conference. If you can t secure an appointment right away, you need to be patient about that. We understand the difficulty that s attached to that, but keep checking the website.
