The Cranbury Township Committee unanimously adopted a $12.95 million municipal budget to fund the township for 2021.
The adoption of the budget occurred on March 22. Mayor Mike Ferrante, Deputy Mayor Barbara Rogers, Township Committeeman Jay Taylor, Township Committeeman Matt Scott and Township Committeewoman Evelyn Spann voted “yes” on the measure.
Municipal appropriations are decreasing from $14.38 million in 2020 to $12.95 million in the 2021 budget.
Cranbury’s residential and commercial owners support the municipal appropriations through a tax levy. In 2021, the tax levy is projected to be $7.27 million, an increase from 2020’s $6.98 million.

When the Cranbury Township Committee convened for its annual reorganization meeting committee members elected Mike Ferrante as the township’s new mayor.
Ferrante was elected mayor for 2021 at a reorganization meeting on Jan. 4. He succeeds Township Committeeman Matt Scott, who served as mayor in 2020.
“2020 was a tough year for our country and many in our community. I am grateful for the advancement in the sciences that has brought forth the efficacious vaccines in nine months,” Ferrante said in his remarks. “In 2020, despite the pandemic and all of its disruptions, we continued to make progress as a township. We switched to zoom township committee meetings, which have the side benefit of a lot more transparency and engagement with our residents.”

EDAC may become a formal commission in Cranbury Township
When the Cranbury Township Committee convened for its final meeting in 2020, details would emerge about the creation of an ordinance converting the Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC) to an advisory commission.
The decision by the Township Committee to create an ordinance for EDAC to become a formal commission was not unanimous, when a straw poll was taken through a work session at the committee meeting on Dec. 21. The straw poll vote would be a 3-2 decision to move forward with creating an ordinance that will be introduced at the township’s next regular meeting set for Jan. 11.
