Wallasey Town Hall, where Wirral Council meets in normal times Labour is battling to take back control of Wirral Council, but one seat could stop the party in its tracks. In 2019, Labour lost seats to the Conservatives and the Green Party and saw its majority on Wirral Council disappear. The Labour Party currently has 32 of Wirral’s 66 councillors, meaning two gains would see the party regain its majority on the council. However, to do this it will need to hold on to a number of marginal seats it already has. One such seat is Leasowe and Moreton East. Taking the seat from Labour would be a huge scalp for the Conservatives, as it is a ward which has voted Labour since 1973, apart from two very brief interludes.
