An independent consultant tasked with interviewing women who may have been harmed by a surgeon is his former colleague - and is even named as a referee on the physician s CV.
Dr Mike Cust is to assess the care received by nearly 400 female patients of Dr Daniel Hay, 56, at the Royal Derby Hospital between 2015 and 2018.
The review was triggered a year ago, following concerns raised by the gynecologist s own colleagues in late 2018.
The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust said this week that Dr Cust, who is now a retired former obstetrics and gynaecology consultant, had been given the role of independent consultant.
