An ordinance setting a time limit for the use of loud lawn care equipment was approved by the Crestwood Board of Aldermen Aug. 23 after some debate about the times it should cover. Four aldermen, including two new ones, were sworn in April 26 at the Crestwood Board of Aldermen meeting. Returning aldermen Greg Hall of Ward 3 and Tony Kennedy of Ward 4 were sworn in alongside new aldermen Jim Zavist of Ward 1 and Mike Balles of Ward 2. This is Hall’s second term and Kennedy’s.
Crestwood featured four aldermanic races in this year’s April election, three of which had unopposed candidates. Mike Balles is set to step into the role of Ward 2 Alderman for Mary Stadter, who is ineligible for reelection. Balles is an 11-year resident of Crestwood, and has lived in St. Louis since graduating from the University.
Candidate filing closed last week for several municipal offices and school board positions across South County, including a competitive race for Sunset Hills mayor. Aldermanic seats in Crestwood, Sunset Hills and Green Park, and trustee seats in Grantwood Village will also be up for election, plus seats on the Lindbergh, Mehlville, Affton, Bayless and Hancock.
The Crestwood TIF Commission that will be examining whether to grant tax incentives for the redevelopment of the former Crestwood mall site proposed by Dierbergs and McBride Homes met for the first time this month, with a public hearing and possible decision expected by May.
The two developers did not give any specifics or dollar amounts on the tax-increment financing requests at the Feb. 4 meeting, but Dierbergs Director of Real Estate Brent Beumer, a Sunset Hills resident, gave a conceptual overview of the project and confirmed, as first reported by The Call, that the developers are not seeking any tax subsidies for the subdivision proposed by McBride.
