Rehabilitation works of 326 level crossings near completion

crossings have been brought under various need-based development work
including rehabilitation, construction and up-gradation in order to make
those protected.

RAJSHAHI, Jan 3, 2021 (BSS) – The West Zone of Bangladesh railway will construct Bogura-Sirajganj direct rail track aimed at easing communication between the two districts, a railway official here said.
The zone headquartered in Rajshahi has adopted a project titled “Construction of Dual Gauge Rail Line from Bogura to Shahid M. Monsur Ali Station, Sirajganj of Bangladesh Railway”, its Chief Engineer Al Fattah Masudur Rahman told BSS.
He said the project had been approved in the ECNEC meeting on October 30, 2018 adding that an 86.51-kilometer mainline and another 16.30-kilometer loop line including other specified civil works will be constructed under the Taka 5,579.70-crore project.
The gatekeeper of Joypurhat s Puranpoil level crossing failed to lower the gate on time as he was either sleeping or drowsy, causing the accident that left 12 people dead and eight others injured, a railway probe found.
Holding gateman Nayon Miah main responsible for the accident, the committee has recommended his removal from the job. Nayon, who was recruited under a railway project, has already been suspended.
The committee also blamed the bus driver and the Roads and Highways Department for the accident.
The four-member probe committee, led by Nasir Uddin, divisional transport officer (Paksey) of Bangladesh Railway (BR), submitted their report on Saturday night.
