InfoMigrants has spoken with a source in Libya, who is familiar with the mechanisms of the smuggling networks and how migrants are moved inside the country before they are finally put on boats to Europe. Spanish police in the northern African enclave of Melilla have discovered migrants hiding in waste containers in an attempt to reach the Spanish mainland. One man was found almost dead inside a plastic bag full of toxic ash.
The Spanish Guardia Civil police force found a total of 41 migrants in the Melilla port on Friday. Some of them had buried themselves in an open container with thousands of used empty glass bottles, including broken glass.

Italian authorities arrested three people smugglers on Monday, February 15, as part of an investigation sparked after about 100 migrants were found the previous night, in an area north of the city of Udine.
Three people were arrested on Monday, February 15 by Italian police for aiding and abetting illegal migration after about 100 undocumented migrants were found in the country s northeastern Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
Those found included 11 women of different nationalities.The investigation was coordinated by the local prosecutor s office and it became clear during it that the three alleged people smugglers had already planned another trip to bring numerous asylum seekers into Italian territory.

Bari police on February 10 arrested two alleged smugglers believed to have illegally taken 32 migrants to the town of Marina di San Gregorio in the Italian region of Puglia. Investigators said they found maps and nautical routes connecting Greece to Italy on the suspects phones.
On February 10, police in Bari arrested two alleged migrant smugglers. Investigators believe the suspects, aged 30, illegally took 32 migrants to Marina di San Gregorio, in the area of Patù, on February 9 a case which was being investigated by Lecce flying squad police.
Investigators found maps and nautical routes connecting Greece to Italy s southern coast on the suspects phones, as well as photos and videos of migrant crossings on a sailboat.

Italian authorities have reported more cases of Afghan minors entering the country hidden inside cargo trucks coming from the Balkans. Police said they apprehended youths in two separate cases in Ravenna and in Caserta this week.
Italian police continue to report cases of underage Afghans discovered squeezed into trucks coming from the Balkans. After youths were discovered in northern Italian province of Monza and Brianza at the end of January, two similar incidents were reported by police in the area of Ravenna, in the north, and in the southern city of Caserta.
