last 72 hours. what are you seeing where you are? reporter: chris, well, tijuana and san diego have experienced migrant surges for years now. five years ago a large caravan that came here and so they had time to build shelters, they had time to create an infrastructure, a lot of these are created by humanitarian organizations and the american side, there is also a lot of shelter. the infrastructure that exists between san diego and tijuana is much more prepared to receive a lot of these migrants. i am at port of entry here in tijuana, and you can see behind me, groups of migrants, these are i would say are the lucky migrants. they re the ones that have been able to get in an appointment to request asylum at the port of entry using the cd-1 application that u.s. government created. secretary mayorkas is saying they should go through the app. as i have conversations with individuals, they tell me they tried using the app, but the app doesn t work for them. some said i tried it for 22

migrant surges. griff: are you and are they ready for the storm coming? we have had table-top commerce exercises. i think we are pre prepared fory surges that we are going experience. griff: and on that morale point i have been with the men and women in green with trips along the border and never before are they more dedicate today their professionalism than they are right now knowing that what s coming is something that they ve probably see never never seen before in their lives. truly unprecedented but they are going to get the job done as best as they can with the resources they have at hand, rich. rich: griff, they have about 1500 troops on the way down to the border, what can you tell us about that? what s the timeline there? griff: well, the timeline still being worked on, rich, but we know today that the majority of the active duty personnel will be made of up marines out of
chief, there is a calm befor the storm. to come is really already. can you give us a sense of what you expect once title 42 lifts? so over the last seven days we been an abruptly about a dozen arrange along the southwest border. arcos lives in oregon border. we continue to see migrant surges in certain locations, so we are moving resources and relocating relocating some trepidation resources to help support the sectors and the minimum or not there on patrol. can you put rough numbers? we ve heard 13,000, maybe it will double? what we do know is there is migrant population staging on the southern side of the us-mexico border. we do know there s a migrant population that is transitions that are transiting through mexico right now. i fully expect us to see on m may 11th 9,000 or 10,000 apprehension the day. that is not something that we are not prepared for.
u.s. customs and border protection says a new migrant processing center in el paso, texas is now open. officials say that tent-like facility will boost processing capacity by 1,000 and will ensure migrants are treated with dignity while in custody. cnn s rosa flores is live in texas. we know el paso has become the epicenter of this crisis. practically speaking, what will the impact of this new center be? reporter: well, practically, it will double the holding capacity in the el paso sector which is important because it will give the federal government a way to mitigate the impact of migrant surges. what happened in el paso, and the reason why el paso became the epicenter of the current immigration crisis was because a very large number of migrants crossed into the united states during a very short period of time. this overwhelmed the federal government, the local government
