2020 Best of Erie Winners and Finalists Your favorite people, places, and things in the Erie area by Erie Reader Staff
Nick Warren / seohwa
Given the historic challenge of 2020, few could be blamed for not being at their best. In the context of COVID-19, sometimes doing your best was just hanging in there. But to transcend all that, to continue to be a superlative asset to this city and this community despite all those trials and tribulations? That deserves recognition and celebration sometimes in ways previously unthought
Your 2020 Best of Erie winners reflect this. With categories such as Culture & Nightlife and Food & Drink disproportionately affected by the pandemic, new subcategories were created while others have gone on temporary hiatus. Before 2020 could you have imagined voting for Erie s Best Alcoholic Slushie (Altered State Distillery) while live-streaming an award-winning Erie Playhouse
New owners to expand burger concept to other Texas cities
Tc4 & Co. Hospitality, a 7-unit restaurant group in Austin, Texas, said Thursday it had bought 4-unit Mighty Fine Burgers Fries & Shakes, which also is in Austin.
Tc4, which was founded in 2011, owns and operates two locations of Tony C’s Coal Fired Pizza, two locations of Tony C’s Pizza & Beer Garden and three units of The League Kitchen and Tavern, with a fourth slated to open later this year.
It is led by partners Tony Ciola and Creed Ford IV.
“We have been longtime fans of Mighty Fine’s concept, as well as the quality of food and service,” Ford said in a release announcing the acquisition. “When this opportunity presented itself, we knew we had to act quick.”

Austin Japanese noodle shop Ramen 512 is shuttering its takeout-only restaurant in ghost kitchen hub Kitchen United Mix in the Wooten neighborhood. Its last day of service will be on Sunday, January 17. Owner and chef Vinh Thai always intended that the takeout venture was a temporary one. Now, he’s going to turn his attention to opening a physical restaurant, as he had planned on doing before the novel coronavirus pandemic. Last November, North Austin Korean restaurant Seoulju also closed down its takeout/delivery branch within Kitchen United.
Brewery Opening
Pinthouse Pizza’s fourth location 2201 East Ben White Boulevard in the McKinney neighborhood is opening this week, as reported by Craft Beer Austin. Dubbed Pinthouse Brewing, the space features the brewery as well as a restaurant. The menu specifically not include pizza; rather, there are sandwiches, salads, and snacks.
