If you can read this newspaper story, you’re able to do something that a number of my clients can’t, and that is read the printed word.
I operate a tiny agency, Life After Blindness, affiliated with the Midland Lions Club. I work with people experiencing sight loss in an effort to help them create the lives they want. I make home visits, help run a support group and procure items for visually impaired people. But there’s one problem: it’s very hard to find volunteers who will read for people. Agencies have money for caregivers, but not specifically for reading mail and other documents. I have a client in Gladwin County; she has dyslexia and could use help even now.
