Harry McCaffrey, 89, a former member of the county planning commission and city council, died Friday, Dec. 11, at Candlestone Assisted Living. “He loved Midland,” said his son, Brian McCaffrey, adding that his dad was a caring, heartfelt man. Born Nov. 19, 1931, in Syracuse, New York, to George and Norine McCaffrey, Harry served in the U.S. Army. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in science from the University of Toledo and a master’s degree in business from Central Michigan University. He and his wife Susan moved to Midland in the early 1960s, and Harry worked in the hazardous materials regulation department at The Dow Chemical Co.
