Oliver named Syracuse Chief of Police

SYRACUSE Michael Oliver has been named the new Chief of Police in the Village of Syracuse.
“I will serve and protect the residents of Syracuse with the best of my ability and will continue to grow the current relationships and community involvement from our department,” said Oliver of his message to residents of the village.
Oliver, who has been with the Syracuse Police Department since August 2016, will replaced former Chief Mony Wood who stepped down from the position earlier this month. Wood was recently named Chief of the Middleport Police Department.

0054 hours Deputies were dispatched to a traffic crash with injury on to assist the Ohio Highway Patrol.
0556 hours Deputies responded to a domestic ciolence call on Shepard Road, Rutland. After speaking with the alleged victim, it was determined no crime was committed.
1150 hours Deputies were dispatched to Sorden Road, Long Bottom for a well being check. Contact was made with a male and it was determined he was fine.
1349 hours Deputies were dispatched to a well being check on State Route 7 in Tuppers Plains. It was determined the male was fine.
Three in custody following search

POMEROY Three people were taken into custody after a search warrant was executed at a residence in Pomeroy on Tuesday night.
In a news release, Sheriff Keith Wood stated that on Feb. 9, in the late evening hours the Gallia-Meigs Major Crimes Task Force while working in conjunction with deputies from the sheriff’s office and officers with the Pomeroy Police Department, executed a search warrant at 416 Spring Avenue in the Village of Pomeroy.
“The search warrant comes after an in-depth investigation into drug trafficking in the Spring Avenue area of Pomeroy. Seized from the residence was a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine, prescription drugs, cash, and drug paraphernalia,” stated the release.

MIDDLEPORT On Jan. 15, the Middleport Police Department received a call from law enforcement in Anderson, Indiana, who advised they were actively looking for and had a felony warrant for Zackary Custer, 29, of Middleport.
Officers went to his last known addressed and advised he was not home at the time. Custer later walked into the Middleport Police Department and turned himself in without incident.
A fugitive of justice warrant was completed for Meigs County Court and Madison County Sheriff of Indiana was notified. Custer awaits arraignment in the Middleport Jail.
On Jan. 18, Middleport Police were called and advised that William Eric Hayes, 47, of Brownell Avenue was allegedly screaming inside his apartment and may have a gun.
