Middleboro Fire Dept. responds to house fire on Summer Street

Middleborough Fire Chief Lance Benjamino reported the Middleborough Fire Department extinguished a house fire early on the morning of March 9 on Summer Street.
At approximately 6:15 a.m., Middleborough Fire responded to a call for a house fire at 40 Summer St. Firefighters from Engine 1 and the Shift Commander in Car 91 from the Central Fire Station and Engine 2 from South Station were the first to respond to the scene.
Middleborough Fire also struck a box alarm, which calls in the chief, off-duty and on-call firefighters.
Upon their arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke conditions and flames near a chimney in the main living area of the home. Firefighters began a quick and aggressive attack, knocking the fire down within minutes.

The Isolation and Quarantine Food Security Program, established by the Massachusetts COVID-19 Command Center and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), helps local municipalities bring food to those in need.
As part of the program, Chief Benjamino and the Town of Middleborough will order boxes of food using an online system, and will be responsible for delivering the shelf-stable food boxes to households on an as-needed basis.
“This is a great and much needed program that will assist many of our residents, Chief Benjamino said. No one should go hungry because they are required to be in isolation or quarantine, and we’ll do whatever we can to help those in need. If we see a greater eed for deliveries, we will look toward expanding the program throughout town as well.
Middleboro Fire Dept. responds to two fires in one day
MIDDLEBORO – Middleboro Fire Chief Lance Benjamino reports that the Middleborough Fire Department was called to extinguish two fires in one day on Wednesday.
At approximately 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Middleboro fire responded to a call for a house fire at 530 Wareham St. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames showing from the first floor, second floor and attic of the home. All occupants were able to safely exit the house before first responders arrived.
Middleborough Fire conducted an aggressive interior attack inside the home, which allowed them to limit the spread of the fire and minimize damage to the house. The scene was cleared by approximately 8:30 a.m. The home sustained significant damage to the front of the first floor, second floor and attic. The fire caused approximately $100,000 in fire, heat, smoke and water damage. The fire is believed to have started in the chimney on the first floor of the home.

An 1800s building in a Massachusetts town went up in flames Thursday evening, marking the third significant blaze firefighters in the community responded to this week, authorities said.
The three-alarm blaze in Middleborough started shortly before 6 p.m., spread across two buildings on Wareham Street and was eventually extinguished nearly three hours after it began, according to a statement from the town’s fire department.
“This was the third significant fire the Middleborough Fire Department has responded to in two days,” Middleborough Fire Chief Lance Benjamino said in the statement. “Thankfully, no injuries have resulted, and we’ve been able to call on several departments in the area to support our firefighting efforts.”
