Environment Agency works with angling clubs to plant 8,000 trees
The Environment Agency recently distributed 8,000 trees between five fisheries and the Middle Level Commissioners as part of the compensatory planting project.
This project aims to replace dangerous trees that can cause harm to people and floods assets.
The Environment Agency worked in partnership with these organisations to identify areas that needed additional support.
Trees planted on designated embankments or in a state of ruin were removed and replaced.
For each tree removed the Environment Agency planted an estimated five more in its place.

The next morning, Chrissie had six inches of water in her kitchen and bathroom and three inches in her lounge.
Luckily, they had been to get small items and personal possessions upstairs before the water levels reached too high.
He said: “Every time it’s expected to rain, she’s nervous about what the outcome will be. During the bad weather last week, my partner slept on the sofa close to the phone in case we had to get to mum quickly.”
He added: “It’s no way for any of us to live – and we’re not the only ones going through this.
Anglian Pass being developed for boaters
Boaters will have the option to purchase an Anglian Pass which will allow them to navigate unrestricted across neighbouring navigations.

26 January 2021 A new Anglian Pass will hopefully be in place for the start of the new boating season, April 2021.
The Environment Agency, the Conservators of the River Cam and the Middle Level Commissioners are developing a new pass together.
The Anglian pass will cover the River Nene, the Great Ouse system, the Middle Level Navigation and the River Cam.
This will allow boaters to move between different waterways without having to pay multiple registration fees. The price of the Anglian Pass will cover this.
The development won consent providing conditions were satisfied for surface drainage and foul water - but the March Fifth District Drainage Commission at the Middle Level Commissioners remain dissatisfied.
“Over the period this pumping station pumped up to a peak of 70 tonnes of water each second, equivalent to emptying two Olympic sized swimming pools a minute.
“The first pump started operating at St Germans at 3pm on December 23 and within two hours three pumps were running, with a fourth pump coming online by midnight on that day.
Middle Level Commissioners have praised its workforce after flash flooding across the region just hours before Christmas Eve.

“At the time of writing four pumps remain in operation. Those four pumps have between them been discharging 50 to 70 tonnes of water per second, meaning that from midnight on December 23 until midnight on December 27 in excess of 20 billion litres of water was pumped and of course we won’t stop pumping until water levels within the system return to normal target winter levels.
