Sheriff bemoans plague of dangerous driving in isles as young man admits going at excessive speeds

SHETLAND is suffering from a “plague of bad, dangerous driving”, according to local sheriff Ian Cruickshank. He made the comment after a case called at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday in which a man admitted driving dangerously at grossly excessive speeds while just over.

THE CONCERT schedule for the returning Shetland Folk Festival has been revealed. The opening concert will see Dougie MacLean perform at Mareel in Lerwick on Thursday 28 April. Other venues in the programme, which can be viewed online, include the Cunningsburgh Hall, the Big Kirk.

Clear majority happy to pay tolls for using any tunnel that may be built in the future

A MAJORITY of well above 90 per cent of those attending an online event on Saturday indicated their support for tunnels connecting Yell, Unst, Whalsay and Bressay even if a toll similar to the current ferry fares would be charged. Around 150 people tuned into the two hour event.
