At least 24,000 pre-order holders and millions of fans worldwide must be asking: where’s Microlino? The bubble car made headlines when it was revealed and its production was expected to begin in 2021. Micro-Mobility informed us why that did not happen: blame the global supply shortage. We’re not talking only about chips but other components as well, such as wiring harness connectors.
Three-wheelers and microcars were always deemed the perfect means of transport in the crowded urban environment. Replace their tiny combustion engine with an electric powertrain, and you’ve got yourself the perfect – and perfectly compact – vehicle to zap around the city on your daily commute, with a low carbon footprint and low maintenance costs.
The Microlino 2.0 deliveries are scheduled to start on September 21, 2021. As they quickly approach, Micro-Mobility needs to define all aspects the production version will have, and the third prototype already presents most of them. It will include a reworked folding roof, a central display, and no door handle, but it is the manufacturing process that deserves more attention.

In what is perhaps the cutest drag race to have ever happened, here are two Microlino electric cars going against each other. The winner is, predictably, the newer version, the Microlino 2.0, which should start deliveries later this year, if everything goes according to plan.
Microlino is the brainchild of Micro Mobility Systems, first announced back in 2018. That was Microlino 1.0, an Isetta-inspired microcar that never made it into production. But the Swiss company didn’t give up on the idea, even though, to be fair, microcars have long gone out of fashion. So last year, Microlino 2.0 emerged on the radar with the introduction of the first working prototype.

The Microlino is one such car. Inspired by the iconic Isetta bubble car, it delivers the same type of solution for personal mobility: a tiny, two-passenger vehicle that is light and relatively fast, convenient and, more importantly, all electric.
The Microlino 2.0 bubble car was initially supposed to be coming out a couple of years ago, but the Swiss maker decided on an upgraded design instead. At the end of last year, we were shown the first prototype of Microlino 2.0, which is still scheduled for a late 2021 delivery date, with production supposed to start in September.
