GOP lawmakers say Whitmer s call for bipartisanship requires more than just talk

Whitmer pens letter to Michigan: We can get this done, together

The health of our economy is inextricably linked with the health of our people. Effectively rebuilding our economy this year requires that we protect public health, and that hurdle is cleared easier and quicker when we work together. This month, I announced the MI COVID Recovery Plan, focused on vaccine distribution, getting our kids back in school safely, providing support for small businesses, and jumpstarting our economy. The MI COVID Recovery Plan will allocate $90 million in federal funding to ramp up vaccine distribution in Michigan, bring us closer to our goal of 50,000 shots in arms per day, and help us end the pandemic once and for all. My plan will also provide crucial support for Michigan businesses, workers, educators, and students. I am ready to work with Republicans in the legislature and hear their ideas for how we can get this done to help everyone in Michigan move forward.

GOVERNOR WHITMER S 2021 STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS Good evening. Last year, I gave my second State of the State address in the House Chamber here in the capitol. Like much of the last year, this State of the State is different, because it has to be. Tonight, it’s just me and a few people in my Capitol office. And while it’s different, it s an opportunity to speak directly to you the people of Michigan about the past year, and our priorities in 2021. At the risk of losing you in the first minutes of this speech, I’m going to use a Latin phrase: Annus horribilis: a year of horribles.  Before I tell you more, take comfort in knowing that tough years like 2020, our annus horribilis, are usually followed by great years – and yes, there’s Latin a phrase for that too: annus mirabilis.
