Gov. Whitmer Announces $5.6 Billion Michigan COVID-19 Recovery Plan
January 19, 2021
While Governor Gretchen Whitmer is in Washington DC for the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden, she held a virtual press conference Tuesday announcing the Michigan COVID Recovery Plan.
The $5.6 billion plan focuses on three sectors, vaccine distribution, support for small businesses and education, specifically getting kids back into school as quickly as possible.
The state wants to get students back in class by March 1. This plan will help fund that transition while also offering grants to businesses trying to recover from the pandemic.
While Gov. Whitmer expects increased vaccine supplies under a Biden administration, the state needs to spend more money to be ready to give those shots, aiming at 50,000 a day.
