This year we lost several prominent community members in Midland. As 2020 comes to a close, we take time to remember these notable individuals.
Longtime volunteer Rhea Currie, 103, died March 13. Born in Peck, Michigan, Currie graduated from Alma College and taught in Midland Public Schools. She helped in many capacities at Midland Hospital (now known as MidMichigan Medical Center) from its opening in 1944 to 2019, making her the hospital’s oldest and longest-tenured volunteer; she received a certificate of recognition from the governor’s office for her efforts. Currie worked in the gift shop, at the front desk, in the surgical lounge and as an escort, considering the hospital her home away from home.
