This school year will be the last for the Port Huron High School mascot and that of two elementary schools in the Port Huron Area School District. Board members this week unanimously approved a resolution to retire the "Big Reds" and set a timeline to name a replacement. "The direction is that the principals of each of these schools will work with students and stakeholders to recommend a new nick name, logo, and mascot," said School Board President Ann Murphy. According to Murphy, a deadline of March of 2023 has been set to make those recommendations to the Superintendent's office. "We're asking for it by (March) because after that we can apply for grants to pay for changing all these logos," Murphy told WPHM. Other mascots affected are the "Little Reds" of Roosevelt and "Little Chiefs" of Michigamme Elementary School. All three mascots will be retired by the end the current school year, and the new selections will take effect
