Garrison Brothers Distillery’s Bourbon Brawl is back and this year, it’s bigger than ever. The annual competition created by Texas-based Garrison Brothers pits bartenders against each other in a battle to create a unique and flavorful cocktail recipe using the distiller s spirits. Founded in 2019, the contest has previously been limited to the Lone Star State. For the 2021 iteration, though, Garrison Bros. is expanding the competition to eight markets across the United States.

Michelle Stephenson gets ready for a productive work day at the People’s Garden.
Several volunteers get to work on the raised beds at the People’s Garden during a work day.
Hello, Sidney/Shelby County area! Have you thought about your garden yet?
At The People’s Garden we think about it all year long yes, even in winter! We have been planning, building new beds, organizing the crops to be planted this season, thinking about what kinds of things we want to present as garden education for you (beginners and skilled gardeners), and gathering materials for this new season. We have materials to build more metal beds right now, new onions and grass seed to plant, and many seeds to offer you if you want to rent a garden bed for the season. You would not believe the things we talk about and plan for! We have generous people in the community who help us by starting seeds in the very early spring. We already have many hot peppers, tom

NFB Ontario Studio: Ahead of the Curve
Sponsored feature: National Film Board of Canada By NOW Staff
Canadians have been turning to plenty of streaming services to give ourselves a break from the pandemic.
The National Film Board Of Canada would like to remind you that it, too, has a streaming site: NFB.ca, which offers over 4,000 award-winning documentaries, auteur-animated films and interactive works from the organization’s 82-year history – the vast majority of which are available free – as part of its mandate to creatively represent all regions of the country.
Quite a few of those productions come out of the NFB’s Ontario Studio, which has also positioned itself over the past decade as a leading supporter of diverse filmmakers.
Gearing up for the spring season
Volunteers at the People’s Garden put chicken wire around a bed.
Spring is in the air! This is such an exciting time at The People’s Garden located at 209 S. Brooklyn Ave. in Sidney behind the Agape Distribution building. We are your local community garden for Shelby County and have been going strong since 2013.
Currently, we have three garden coordinators, community volunteers, and public organizations that are interested in helping this season! We have available garden beds to rent for $10 which includes the garden bed, soil, seeds, and advice as desired from our garden coordinators. Our learning center will be offering basic garden classes and workshops so be on the lookout for event dates and times. We will also be having a specialty herb garden prepared by Kendra Ayton. We also have Deb, a local resident from Quincy, starting seeds indoors for us.
