‘Wordgathering’ brings fresh narrative surrounding artists with disabilities

Kenny Fries is often frustrated with the narrative surrounding art created by people with disabilities.
“Historically, writing by writers with disabilities has been seen more as ‘therapy’ than art and culture, and this has been one of the many ways of silencing disabled voices,” said Fries, a professor in the creative writing graduate program at Goddard College.

Another opportunity to get a COVID-19 vaccine is happening on Thursday at a Northside Independent School District facility.
NISD partnered with Carvajal Pharmacy to offer the Moderna vaccine for residents 18 and up from noon to 5:30 p.m. at the Paul Taylor Field House, according to the announcement.
Insurance is not required, but participants are asked to bring an insurance card if they have one. Families must register online here.

Twenty-two law enforcement officers from various agencies participated in The Merlin Foundations annual Shop With A Cop event on Saturday, Dec. 12, in Berryville.

Saturday, Dec.12, was a day full of Christmas cheer for many of Carroll Countys youngest residents. Forty children from Eureka Springs, Berryville and Green Forest arrived at the Berryville Walmart to be greeted by a group of local police officers. Each child was paired with an officer and whisked away to pick out $100 in Christmas gifts.
Twenty-two officers from the Carroll County Sheriffs Office, Berryville Police Department, Eureka Springs Police Department, Green Forest Police Department and the Arkansas State Police participated in the annual Shop With A Cop event hosted by The Merlin Foundation.
