The greater Erie region has consistently added breweries since Erie Brewing Co. opened in 1994.
Our latest addition, Twisted Elk Brewery, is located in beautiful Lake City. Owned and operated by Brad and Michelle Nuce, Twisted Elk began as a homebrew dream 10 years ago. Brad Nuce, a West Virginia native, was stationed in the Erie area with the U.S. Marine Corps and moved to the region in 2010. It was around that same time that he began homebrewing and, like most of us, fell in love with the hobby.
The planning for Twisted Elk began two years ago after Brad Nuce volunteered with Tom Morris at Black Monk Brewing. Brad and Michelle Nuce found a great building at a main intersection of Lake City at Routes 5 and 18, and then they acquired their business loans in fall 2019.
Restaurants and bars of all sizes and flavors have opened in the Erie region in the past several months, despite rough economic conditions. Here is a sampling. We ll add to it as we can. Feel free to share any we ve missed with Jennie Geisler at jgeisler@timesnews.com.

The spot on the Bayfront opened June 29, and features two outside decks and a comfortable bar between. Menu is burgers, salads, chicken sandwiches and more. Cocktails are unique and colorful. Soon it will sit atop a two-story high-end seafood and steak restaurant called Bayhouse.
