The state’s only psychiatric hospital for children lost a 13-year-old boy in April after he walked out of an emergency room in Detroit in the middle of the night.
A new study conducted by researchers in Canada and Ireland, of 40,000 children and adolescents across 12 countries, found an increase in depression symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly among young girls and those from relatively higher-income backgrounds.
Through mutual contacts, the three women realized they were dealing with the very same significant issue: kids experiencing a mental health crisis with little to no resources available for help. So they got on the phone and started talking.
