Four recent University of South Florida graduates and a former school staff member – now known as the ‘Tampa Five’ – claim campus police initiated a violent clash between officers and students protesting Fla. Gov. Ron DeSantis on campus in March.
Two young USF activists, former employee Chrisley Carpio and student Gia Davila, along with 3 other student activists associated with Tampa Students for a Democratic Society, are now facing serious felony charges for protesting Gov. Ron DeSantis’ culture wars, and Republican legislative efforts to ban diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives on college campuses. But, they say that video from the scene shows USF police instigating violence against the protesters.
A Tampa mother is charged with murder and neglect, accused of killing her two-year-old son. Prosecutors say Rebecca Gussage-Johnston caused his death by confining him to a booster seat for hours.
