Officers from the Westport Police Department responded to Avis Rental Cars at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Sept. 5, 2020, where there was a report of a woman who rented a car and never returned. Police said that the manager stated that the car in question was supposed to have been brought back to Avis in early August, but as of Sept. 5, it had yet to be returned by Bridgeport resident Michelle Kinner. The manager said that before alerting the police, Avis had reached out to Kinner, sending her a letter asking for the car to be returned, to which she never replied.

The report stated that a vehicle had been rented from Avis Rental Cars in Westport in August of 2002, and the renter had allegedly not returned the vehicle. The person identified as the renter at the time was identified as Michelle Kinner. Prior to contacting Westport Police, Avis reportedly made requests for the vehicle to be returned.

Police responded to Avis Rental Cars back in September 2002 for a report that a rented car was never returned. At the time, the store’s manager said the car was rented to Michelle Kinner in early August, but hadn’t returned it by Sept. 5 of that year. A letter was sent to Kinner, asking she return the car, police said. “Since the vehicle was a month overdue and efforts to recover it from Ms. Kinner were not successful, the car was deemed to be stolen,” Lt. David Wolf said. “Therefore, a warrant for Ms. Kinner’s arrest was completed and signed by a Superior Court judge.”
