Government to shut down because they refuse to pass a budget that funded obama care. Taking a stand to try to deny millions of peoples insurance. Last night, a gop lawmaker explained to me why hes not worried about federal workers losing their paychecks. If history is any indication, they will be made whole and will receive their back pay and it will basically be a paid vacation. Republicans think a shutdown is a paid vacation. No big deal. Few days off to relax. Easy for them to say. Members of congress are still getting paid. These gop lawmakers are pocketing their six figure salaries but taking away money from hard working people all across the country. 3,000 Johnson Space Center Employees are among the federal workers that were sent home from work this morning because of the shutdown. It was devastating. Whats next for you . Try to make some money on the side, cut some grass or bar tend or whatever. Furloughs earlier in the summer took 1300 away from their paychecks and forced big
Thats what republicans are doing tonight. The chaos in the gop is spilling over. And threatening to blow up our economy. Right now House Republicans are ignoring the potential deal over in the senate. And instead trying to charge ahead with their own plan designed to appease the tea party. But just moments ago, they called off that vote. Its been postponed indefinitely. Apparently because they didnt think they had the votes to pass their own plan. Republicans have been playing games all day, and now they have nothing to show for it. President obama says enough is enough. The problem with the house is right now, i think, the House Republicans still believe that they can get concessions for doing their job and making sure that the American People arent hurt. What im suggesting to the congressional leaders is lets not do any pasturing. Lets not try to save face. Lets not worry about politics. Do whats right. Open the government and make sure were paying our bills. And we could do that tod
Break. Today its clear American Voters of every stripe, want action on inequality. Look at this poll. 91 of democrats support raising the minimum wage. 76 of independents support it. And here comes the big one. 58 of republicans support it. Yes, a big majority of americans including Republican Voters want it. This comes a week after new jersey residents voted to raise minimum wage. In washington state, a 15 per hour minimum wage appears to be on the verge of passing. President obama wants it and so do senate democrats. Theyre all pushing for a minimum wage hike. So what are republicans in congress doing about this . Nothing. In fact, theyre hardly working at all. Just six legislative days left on the house calendar this month. And theyre scheduled to work just eight days in december. And today we learned Speaker Boehner joked to reporters, the house shouldnt even remain in session in december. Thats a great idea, speaker. Take december off. While real americans struggle to make ends me
And tonights lead, republicans still havent learned a thing. Voters have sent the right wing a message. Theyre sick of the partys hostility towards women, minorities, and the lbgt community. But so is the republican establishment. Today the New York Times reports the gop is trying to limit the clout of the far right of the party. So now lets see how this latest rebranding is going. Today the senate voted on the employment nondiscrimination act. A bill that would protect gays from being fired due to sexual orientati orientation. And it passed. The yeas are 64. The nays are 32. The bill as amended is passed. Wait a second. 32 votes against it . Who are those 32 votes . Oh, thats right. 32 senate republicans. They actually voted that its okay for people to be fired because theyre gay. That included all the gop hopefuls for 2016. Senator ted cruz, senator marco rubio, senator rand paul. In this country it is against the law to fire people for the color of their skin or for their gender or
